First-person accounts of adventure and history in the sky
• Curtis Condor History Lesson
This 20 minute flic is a time machine that will take you back to another era, 1933. American airline's Curtis Condor biplane airliners, good-looking stewardesses, newfangled telephones, cigars and cigarettes aloft, steam trains, Packard limos, even 'darkies loading cotton." Things were different back then when the U.S. population was only 1/3 of what it is today.
I couldn't help but notice the line: "if you like the picture of darkies loading cotton on the riverboat and singing old man river" I guess AA wasn't too concerned about the African American market segment back in the 30s.
I remember watching an American Airways Curtiss Condor at Logan Field in Boston in 1932, doing an engine runup before takeoff. There was just a chain link fence between me and the aircraft - no TSA!
That was fun! I liked the Curtiss Condor, a mighty steed of the air! I wonder if the Hollywood Star was an actual star in her time?
